Mark timing cues in Xsheet Desk
Intermediate 6 min
Note sound cues and story beats on exposure-sheet ticks, keep them in line with timeline edits and save them as a marker CSV.
Timing markers are short notes attached to a tick of the exposure sheet: "door slam", "beat 2", "line starts". They help you place drawings against sound or dialogue that lives outside Flipline. Open Xsheet Desk (or /app#xsheet) and load Paper bird or your own sheet.
Add a marker
Click a cell in the row where the cue happens; the current tick follows your selection. In the inspector, open Timing markers, type a Timing marker label of up to 80 characters and choose Add marker at current tick. Several markers may share one tick.
Each marker appears in the list with its tick and start time, for example "Tick 5 · 0.333 s" at 12 FPS. Edit its Marker label or Marker tick and choose Update marker. Go to marker moves the preview and selection to that tick, and Remove marker deletes it. Up to 240 markers fit in one sheet.
Markers follow the timeline
Markers belong to ticks, not to seconds. Insert ticks before range moves every later marker down together with its exposures. Delete selected ticks, a smaller Timeline ticks value or shorter Paste exposure lines remove the markers inside the deleted rows; Flipline asks before it removes any. Changing Frame rate (FPS) keeps every marker on its tick, so only the time in seconds changes.
Adding, editing, moving and removing markers are normal undo steps, shared with exposure edits: Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z restore both together.
Keep markers with a CSV
Markers are session notes. They are not saved in the .flipline-xsheet.json project or in browser autosave, and they are not part of GIF, PNG, CSV timing, SVG or drawing-project exports. Before you open another sheet, return to the drawing board or close Xsheet Desk, Flipline asks for confirmation if markers would be lost.
Choose Download marker CSV to keep them. The file lists one-based ticks, start times in seconds, the label, the FPS and an exact copy of the label. Labels that a spreadsheet might read as a formula (starting with =, +, - or @) get a leading apostrophe in the visible label column, so opening the file in a spreadsheet cannot run anything.
Bring markers back
Choose Import marker CSV and select a marker CSV downloaded from Flipline. Import replaces the current markers as one undoable step and checks that every tick fits the open sheet. If the CSV was made at a different FPS, Flipline tells you that ticks stay the same but the seconds change. Older marker CSVs without the exact-label column still open; review their labels, because spreadsheet-safety apostrophes stay in them. Files are limited to 128 KB. Only Flipline marker CSVs are read: other spreadsheets are rejected rather than guessed.
